Thanks for the memories. The Braindance pioneers pick their top 10 Rephlex tracks.
When Grant Wilson-Claridge and Richard D. James started Rephlex Records back in 1991 I don’t think either of them could have imagined the journey it would take them on. The sheer quality and diversity of the label’s catalog makes it one of the most important – and respected – imprints in electronic music. Now, two decades later – and with over 200 releases under its belt – Rephlex has closed up shop. But while trading may have ceased, the legacy continues.
One of the last Rephlex albums to contain a CAT# code was D’Arcangelo’s Audiovisual Designs. The Italian duo had been a staple on the Rephlex roster right from the early days, so I thought it would be nice to ask Marco to pick ten of his favourite tracks from the Rephlex catalog. His picks – as well as a few words about Japan – are below. Braindance <3.
“Never been to Japan ourselves but we think that it is a window to the future. We admire the sense of commitment and strong community, not to mention the huge technology innovation that is now part of most people’s everyday life. Someday, in the near future, a musical instrument with very high performance will be developed, in which advanced science technology and industrial power are highly utilized.”
